If Nashville Goes For Full Rebuild

Created by: iBeLeaf
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 2, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs need a true starting goalie if they want to have any hope of surviving Tampa and Boston. I love Sammy but we need more insurance. Ideally Murray gets put on LTIR until playoffs, but I think he's working hard towards a return soon so Leafs can't put a player on LTIR for 2 months who isn't actually injured. Which means Murray gets placed on waivers (very unlikely another team claims him but you never know) and if he clears then assign him to the Marlies for more goalie depth later on.

Also Morgan Rielly gets moved to left wing which is what he is, he's actually terrible at defending and Leafs were much, MUCH better defensively when he was injured. I have faith that even without a true top D pairing that an elite goalie and better overall team defense from Rielly NOT being back there will make the Leafs harder to play against.

Holl and Kerfoot being gone as well is more addition by subtraction. We'll see if Dubas has the stones to truly go ALL IN!

  6. 2024 3rd round pick (NYI)
  7. 2025 3rd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Note: I've included the 2023 4th round pick (MIN) and 2025 3rd round pick (MIN) from Minnesota because 1) It took FIVE draft picks (and a prospect) for Tampa to pry Tanner Jeannot away from Nashville so I figure this is the minimum for Nashville to even consider trading their starting goalie or 2) Dubas convinces Poile to take Holl and Kerfoot in the first place, and Poile flips them to another playoff contender (like Minnesota) for a 3rd + 4th round pick anyway or maybe Poile can get even more in return for retaining salary on Holl and Kerfoot.

True lol, but I think Nashville needs to consider whether or not they can be a true contender in the next 3 years before Saros' contract expires and he's a UFA who will likely walk if Nashville isn't making the playoffs. I know this trade happens only if Nashville is going for the full rebuild, not just a retool for next year.

Actually make that 2 years before Saros is a UFA in 2025. But his value is the highest right now while a team can potentially have him for 3 playoff runs including this season.

Trotz and Poile started building NSH from scratch a whole year before the first game. He's basically David Poile 2.0. There are promises that need to be honored for their existing veterans. I can't see a CHI style teardown here. Saros would be highly coveted around the league, should he be made available
