Description

More to see if the cap could work for this season and have another high-scoring winger. Goal scoring has usually dried up in crunch time. Not saying this is the best route to take but could be an option. Also let me know if I'm way off in value, I haven't watched him play much this year. CHI trade is for retention on Schmaltz.

I don't think they do it at all unless the return is just too good to turn down - like a 1st rounder plus. Hawks are already retaining on McCabe for two more seasons. If they retained on Schmaltz, that would use up two of their three retention slots for the next 2 seasons. Severely limits their ability to maneuver at the next 2 trade deadlines.
