Description

Looking at the Kings-Blue Jackets trade, I cant help but wonder if the habs could have been in talks with LA.

I'm guessing our offer was Allen and Edmundson and we would probably get a 1st, 3rd and Quick.

I think we would get less anyway, but Kings were unsure of Edmundson's health so they decided to do something else.

Just look at our draft capital if they had said yes.

Makes me wonder if Hughes has anything else cooking.

Nobody is taking Allen with his extension. At $1.4M as a rental, he had value. With 2 years @ $3.85M coming up, he only has value to us because retention is off the table.
Edmundson was in the running for a 1st with retention and being a 2 year rental, before his health issues. With other unexpected and/or termed D hitting the market, it was less likely even before all the trades. With a lot of buyers off the market and the injuries, we'd be lucky to get enough of a return to justify moving him.

I had high hopes to keep the rebuild momentum going with a decent trade deadline, but circumstances have changed. I'm not expecting anything other than maybe a last minute Drouin trade. Anything else is either a bonus or a move to make a roster correction (like a Matheson trade to remove some LHD congestion).
