Flames could also pay up in draft picks for Vegas to take Brouwer. Shinkaruk is a nice piece.

While I think you are close to numbers on Ferland, I think he still gets a bit north of 2m per. Minus the difference from Lazar who won't get a raise on what he was making last year. Flames can't put all that money on the back end, they will need to add forward help. This scenario has them losing Versteeg, so they will some how be weaker up front. Gotta fix that!

Make the Caps retain $1.5-2M of that awful salary. Still helps them with resigning Kuzy, Orlov, and Oshie but doesn't ruin Calgary's nice cap space.

Two years of Orpik at $5.5M is very similar to what CGY just worked their way out of with Wideman finally. BUT, if Grubauer comes with Orpik for a late pick? I think I'm all over that.

I very much hope that Treliving is going out of his way to move Brouwer somehow, while not retaining much. I'd be willing to retain up to 20% of his contract and package some other assets if it would help LV to take him.

That sort of move would make this Orpik/Grubauer package very doable, and bring lots of upside. Orpik is head and shoulders better than Engelland in that bottom pair role. Yes, Engelland would be cheaper, but the Grubauer piece is very attractive.
