It's looking like the Rangers need to unload Stepan. The Habs can make it work if Vegas takes Plekanec in the expansion draft, and Emelin is dealt. I'm assuming any deal involving Emelin being moved would have to have salary retained.

Rangers do not need to unload Stepan, and if they do it will not be for picks. They're still a competitive team and will try to be as long as Lundqvist is playing. Besides, if Klein retires and the cap goes up to $75 million, they'll have ~15 million to re-sign Zibanejad and two of Fast/Lindberg/Back-up replacement, as well as whoever gets pick up on defence in FA. If Stepan gets moved, it's for a 1st line centre like Duchene or a top-four D-man.
