A FULL rebuild is the only way

Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 13, 2023
Published: May 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I used the Eichel trade for Marner, the Hall's to ARZ trade for Matthews and the Horvat one for Nylander.

Trade away Brodie, Wilson, Lafferty and Stephenson at the next TDL if the team is out of a playoffs spot and fetch additional juicy returns.

Wilson's best years are behind him and Kuzy isn't worth half his contract with his production and "personnal issues". Gonna cost way more for 2 years of a 100 pts player.

I could make it the WAS 2024 1st instead, and have Toronto's fans complaining instead.

I don’t think Wilson has hit his prime yet. As valuable as he is I would take this deal with the 2024 1st

Rugged players often have a sharp decline of health in their early 30's. It's nothing about their skills, but the game takes it toll.

I will change the pick. Thanks.

Matthews 1 year away from UFA isn't worth more than Eichel under contract for 5 years dude. Buffalo fans said he was worth 3x1st+++ and looked very dumb. You're next.

Eichel wasnt just a couple years removed from scoring 60, winning a hart and ted lindsay, while also winning B2B rockets. I hate both guys as a oilers fan but comparing matthews and eichel is just crazy. When Tanner ****ing Jeannot and Hagel are getting mammoth returns, Matthews is getting a kings ransom. Not to mention the Eichel situation was complicated because of his injury status.

You are all over the place. Comparing Matthews to Eichel is crazy, but comparing him to depth RFAs on cheap contracts makes sense somehow. Sure.

All im saying is eichel is not a good comp. Tkachuk is a way better comparison, Flames got a top line fwrd fresh of a 115 pt season(Who was a top 5 fwrd that year) , a top pairing defenseman in weegar, got a decent prospect and a first rounder and thats with tkachuk forcing his hand to Florida.

You really don't understand what team control is.

Again, Tkachuk was a 24 year old RFA. If you want to consider his value, divide it by 3 because Florida paid for 3 seasons and the team trading for Matthews will only pay for 1. Like Vegas who paid for more than one season of Eichel.

Lets take your example again: Florida had to add a 1st+ to get Tkachuk, because a player with a 115 pt season AND a top pairing defenseman WASNT ENOUGH AS THEY WERE ONE YEAR AWAY FROM FREE AGENCY.

Bottom line is that soon to be UFAs only have a fraction of their value under team control. LIKE MATTHEWS.
