I mean I would probably do that trade but only if the Flyers are guaranteed to get multiple firsts for retaining then flipping Marner elsewhere otherwise it is useless for a rebuilding team

In a different timeline, Marner would be great. But the Flyers aren't there yet. I am happy if the Flyers use their financial muscles to get paid to retain a huge chunk of contract in a 3 party deal. Any contract that has 2 years remaining (possibly 3) since I see that as best case window to turn it around, are fair game to take up retention spots.
