Amazing Hindsight aka Rebuilding the Rebuild

Description
The day is February 8th, 2018... in an unprecedented move, NYR announce a rebuild for the whole world to see. What would happen next would arguably be the best and quickest rebuild in NHL history. Many today still consider it the gold standard. But, was it the best possible way to go about it? Let's look at some alternatives. All reasonings and explanations are in the trade descriptions... but, I made an error in the K'Andre one. Obviouisly someone of consequence was taken #22 in K'Andre himself. It'd be a PITA to correct this in sequential order, so please just accept this as my edit. Hopefully CapFriendly will give you the ability to edit trade descriptions one day...

Signing explanations:

I feel that Wahlstrom will struggle with the same consistency issues he faced in NYI with NYR. While he will be a solid middle 6 option, he will be greeted with a prove-it bridge contract.

Like the current team, NYR will need a 4C with size and occassional scoring ability. Accari is the perfect candidate here.

With Trouba and Kreider omitted, NYR will still need muscle. They never trade Reaves, and instead extend him in the offseason. He's a great locker room guy to go along with it. He splits time with Vesey on occasion.

At the end of the day, the question is...

Do you think this team is better than the current team?

Trades
1.
NYR
  1. McDonagh, Ryan
Additional Details:
Far and away the worst trade of the rebuild, was one of the first ones... McDonagh and Miller for a bunch of guys that literally never panned out, at least in a NYR uniform (Namestkiov, Howden, Hajek, a pick that would become Lundkvist, and a pick that would become Henriksson). NYR keep their Captain instead of pulling another Sather, and their only decent younger player at the time in 2018, JT Miller.
2.
NYR
  1. Miller, J.T.
Additional Details:
Miller remains as a consequence of the previous trade.
VAN
  1. Hájek, Libor [RFA Rights]
3.
NYR
  1. Wahlstrom, Oliver [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
In the 2018 draft, NYR drafted Kravstov #9. I remember a lot of people laughing that they didn't take Wahlstrom. Hindsight being 20/20 is obviously the theme of this, so we will reverse that here. Alternately, NYR play a little better with McDonagh/Miller on the team, so they draft Wahlstrom in his correct position.
NYI
    Kravstov
    4.
    NYR
    1. Marchenko, Kirill
    Additional Details:
In the 2018 Draft, NYR trade #26 and #48 to OTT for #22 to draft K'Andre Miller. Nobody of real consequence was taken #22, #26, or #48, but Marchenko was taken #49. So in this scenario, NYR don't trade up the draft pick, and select Marchenko.
    CBJ
    1. Miller, K'Andre [RFA Rights]
    5.
    NYR
    1. Zuccarello, Mats
    Additional Details:
It's the 2019 trade deadline... NYR continues the rebuild, and is selling off anyone and everyone. They look at Kreider and Zuccarello, and need to make a decision. For some reason, they pick Zuccarello to trade, who literally almost died on the ice for them just a little bit ago. I love Kreider, but I think it would be interesting to see if they went the other way with it. I think they would've gotten a similar trade regardless of who it was, but who knows. While in this hypothetical I will keep Matthew Robertson (who they drafted from the DAL draft pick), he won't be on the NHL team so it's a minor factor. Again, I think they would've gotten a similar trade, which was fairly inconsequential in the long run.
    6.
    NYR
    1. Heinola, Ville
    2. Pionk, Neal
    Additional Details:
In the 2019 offseason, NYR traded Pionk and WPG's 1st round pick they received in the Hayes/Lemieux deal for Trouba. With McDonagh still on the team, this trade gets reversed.
    7.
    NYR
    1. Boldy, Matthew
    Additional Details:
In the 2019 NHL Draft, NYR win the lotto to go from #6 to #2. But, what if they didn't win? Moritz Seider was picked #6, but this NYR team is pretty deep defensively, so they go with Boldy who was picked #7. Alternately, they just play a little better and finish 7th. Either way, Boldy is a NYR.
    8.
    NYR
Due to keeping several players, NYR simply loses the Panarin Bid, or maybe isn't even considered. I don't see an easy way to look at past cap hits. Overall, NYR does not land Panarin. I picked NYI here because I think they were the 2nd highest bidder. Whatever it is, it isn't NYR.
      9.
      NYR
      1. Perfetti, Cole
      Additional Details:
In the 2020 NHL draft, NYR wins the lotto and goes from #10 to #1, causing a new rule to be made and all sorts of rigging accusations. But, what if they didn't win? In this scenario, they pick #10 and get Cole Perfetti.
      WPG
      1. Lafrenière, Alexis [RFA Rights]
      10.
