It's stunning how almost all leaf fans seem to forget Samsonov really wasn't great in the playoffs. He cost us game 5 vs Tampa and game 2 vs Florida letting in awful goals. He also was so bad at rebound control throughout the playoffs as well. Better throw away a 1st to "clear cap" so we can give Samsonov almost the same money as Murray. Why not just trade Samsonov, keep the 1st, gain an asset and see what Woll and Murray can do.

I would wager we are going to get 30 games minimum out of Murray leaving Woll and whoever the 3rd stringer is to pick up the rest. I am fine with that. Woll certainly looks decent.

Or!!!
Do this trade (as this is much more reasonable for the sharks than giving up the 23 2nd that’s 36OA) and let Samsonov walk then pick up Andersen back from Carolina as a mentor for Woll for 2 years!
Or.. look at Talbot or trade for Fleury if Min wants Gust and Wally in net!

I want to get rid of a goalie who lets in bad playoff goals. Andersen is exactly the same. Keep the 23 first and run Murray. It's way smarter than giving away good assets to overpay a backup.

Samsonov is better then Murray. You can't blame him in the playoffs and was a top 10 goalie in the NHL this year. He saved us in game 6 and he wasn't the reason we lost in game 5. Murray barely played at all and can't be trusted. He was also having a great game 3 until he got injured. You also have to consider that he would have had a lot of a better playoffs if the leafs defence in the first few games of the Tampa Series wasn't horrible

Booo! Lol I’m a sharks fan and I’ve dealt with playoff letdown, Woll is clearly the future what you guys need is a solid older vet mentor with a good playoff record! Hey Hill is fairly young and just put up a solid season and is killing it in the playoffs.

Just don’t do anything crazy roster wise! I would move Nylander for a good top 4 RD, a very good prospects & a 1st. Get a more dependable Goalie to mentor Woll and start for 1-2 years and backup for maybe an additional year, look at finding defensive minded D to solidify you D and make the team bigger grittier for the playoffs. The sharks had playoff issues for years before picking up Paul Martin and he helped the sharks push to the cup before losing to pit

That's all just placing the blame for his play on everyone but him. What a joke. Murray played well when healthy. He played 23 games while splitting time almost 50/50 when he was healthy. Woll was just as good as Samsonov and didn't let in any bad goals. I don't care if Samsonov had brilliant flashes. Great goalies, cup winning goalies, don't give up back breaker bad goals. Samsonov certainly has. Just like Andersen did when he was a leaf as well. It kills you when you are in the playoffs and your goalie lets in a stinker, just kills you. Murray has won 2 cups, so when he's healthy we at least know he's a gamer in the big minutes. Woll was great in the playoffs and regular season and I haven't seen him give up a bad goal.

Samsonov has the ability to make some saves that are just nuts but they means nothing if you let in bad ones from time to time. Imagine what happens if he doesn't let in that awful one in game 2? Maybe we win get some momentum and who knows? What we do know though is he didn't do that. He let in an awful one and we never recovered. Also much of the "bad defence" was rebounds he should have not let happen. Samsonov could be good but he certainly isn't the savor and a 4 million dollar top flight starter. He's a guy who loses focus and can get flustered and start flopping around. I would keep him and Woll of Samsonov agrees to sign for less than 3.5. preferably 2X2.5. He still has to win the starters job, he certainly hasn't yet.

Defence isn't the problem and moving Nylander is going to be a loss they won't recover from. Keep the core, find some dirty players to add and I agree we need 1 more defenceman. A Muzzin type I think. Maybe Dumba but trading Nylander for that will create a massive hole upfront they won't be able to fill.

A massive hole for 1 year. But it’s not a hole that your team can’t overcome! Knies and a player like Bertuzzi will fill a huge portion of the loss and imma staunch believer that it’s not how many goals you score, it’s how many you give up and having a solid defensive team that can win night in and night out 3-2 / 2-1 with enough talent that if your goalie has a bad night you can still win 6-5 if needed.

Toronto has focused so much effort year after year on scoring! if they push hard to revamp their D it would go a long way to playoff success, just look at Florida their regular season wasn’t anything special but with a strong D and D focused mindset they are killing it in the playoffs. Well Bobby finally finding his game again has helped to
