I feel like trading a player like Berggren during a rebuild is counterproductive. He had a fantastic rookie season and showed flashes of becoming an elite playmaker. I also think if we get out in front of an extension for him, we could potentially lock him up long term for around $4.5m and that presents another layer of value with him.

With that being said, I wouldn’t feel great about this trade but, it’s a fair deal. Ultimately I personally wouldn’t do it.

I love berggeren but you have to give to get, and Keller is only 2 years older and is a legit top line forward signed at a really good contract for the next 5 years. If I could swap berggeren out for a lesser guy (like Zadina) I would but I think berggeren would need to be the piece going back.

I agree it's a pretty fair deal for Keller but I don't think I would do it either. The Wings aren't a Keller type player away from the playoffs but if it was Zadina and an extra 2nd over Berggren then I could see it.

Not even close for Clayton Keller, He'll easily get the equivalent of 3 1st round picks. A 1st and 2 2nds isn't enough.

A top 4 d prospect , a 1st round pick and a young roster player thst will likely be top 6 this year as absolutely a fair value for Keller.

I'd hardly call Albert Johansson a top 4 d prospect, As of now he'd be our bottom pairing LD under either Walman/Edvinsson or Maatta Berggren is a nice piece but he's not Clayton Keller. Switch the 17 to 9 and perhaps Bill Armstrong thinks about it.

Top 4 prospect doesn’t mean he is top 4 now. It means he has the potential to be a top 4 defender which he absolutely has . He nearly made the team out of camp last year and he very well could this year. He definitely has potential to be a top 4 defenseman in the league.
