Couple year plan

Created by: aldore
Team: 2023-24 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 2, 2023
Published: Jun. 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team would be bad but I think we need to be bad and burn a year off of these D contracts. Really do well in the draft and focus on the future. This draft is critical. The next draft if we have 2+ first would be super helpful too,

The taxi squad is guys who will likely get some time. A few random older guys on 2 ways. Just in case injury and numbers post deadline.

At the deadline, flip kappenen, Yamamoto, and nedelkovic for the best you can. Maybe try and get something out of scandella.

Another top 10 draft pick in 2024. A year off of leddy and krug contracts making them more moveable.

2024 off-season- move buch for some high end assets, saad for the best you can get. Clear space for prospects like snuggy and bulduc. Maybe our 2023 #10 will be ready.

Be a bad/mediocre team in 2024/2025 season. In the off-season Get rid of the rest of those D contracts and start building up as our prospect system would be loaded and we’d have cap space to start getting back to being a really competitive squad.

Idk random ideas today

There are way better options on the market to spend a 1st and a 2nd on. Even the FA market. easy no for the Oilers.

Yamamoto is a cap dump at this point so would not pay to move down 25ish spots in the draft

I think he still holds value. For me Puljujarvi was a complete cap dump, whereas Yamamoto should still hold some value. But I can see your point and not think it is overly possible

Potentially? What are some examples of cheap talented players you guys could get? You’re up right against the cap and only have a few more years with draisaitl and mcdavid. In a must go for it situation. Price probably a little high but it’s gonna be tough to fill out a roster and sign Bouchard with 5mil in cap space.

Brown, JVR, Paccioretty, Fast, Dadonov for UFA’s alone can sign for around Vrana. They could take a flyer on him, but with his past problems and small sample size, I doubt the Oilers pay that high a price. Other options may open up like Schmaltz, Konecny, Arvidsson etc on the trade market as well, even if we have to pay a bit more with Yamo on top, they’re more viable options, especially with being right shots and we’d make the cap work.

Also Yamo isn’t some 30 year old player making 5 mill. He’s young, still has some potential if implemented in the right system and only making 3.1 mill for ONE more year. It won’t cost a 2nd to ship him out.

I added the 4th to make it like moving back from like the late 50s pick to like the 100th pick so not a full second. I think most of those guys will want more than 2.5 and all those trade options are gonna cost quite a bit more and have a heavier cap hit. Idk, the cap is gonna be hard for you guys and have to move some money out. Ideally it would be Cambell but that’s gonna be a tough sell
