Trade up

Created by: Random2152
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 9, 2023
Published: Jun. 9, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Its been reported basically everywhere (most recently by Servo) that Garland is at best a freebie, and at worst, negative value for the Canucks. We leverage that to trade up in the draft.

Specifically I want Oliver Moore. No deal without him being available at 11

Leaves lots of space to sign a 3C/3RW

Canucks aren't doing that. Nylander is a luxury they don't need

You need good players at every position. There is no such thing as a luxury in Vancouver

Not on the wings. The Leafs should even be trading him anyways considering they couldn't score more than 2 against Florida

Canucks have a huge surplus of wingers and no cap to take on new players, not to mention the Canucks offence is good it wasn't the problem last season at all

Your only good Winger shot 27% this year.
Yeah - You desperately need help everywhere. Besides Nylander can play C - we just have never needed him to for more than a handful of games

Not to mention the Canucks had 40 wingers that had 40 points or more last sesaon and 1 that would've been on track for more then 40 points Canucks don't need wingers

And? I can't save your team. If you want a good player you're gonna have to find some money - but I kept that money needed WAY down (and frankly - for not nearly enough going to Toronto)

Canucks are prioritizing D and a centers if they are making a move to acquire a player that would put them even more over cap it wouldn't be a winger. Not to mention the winger market is at an all time low i don't hate the value but considering how the rest of the league views wingers right now it's not an overpay

Not that we have to worry about this trade ever happening irl, but you'd quickly come to find out how underrated Nylander is on CF if it happened.
And again - He can play centre. We have just had two 1st overall picks and a 7th overall centre before that clogging up the spot.

Canucks need upgrades on defense and center much more than on wing. Wing is the least important position, and the least of our concerns

I will repeat myself again. Willie can play Centre.
And while you may have more wingers - that doesn't mean it isn't also a place of desperate need.

    You have a 1C and a 1LD, and we think a 1G. Everyone else isn't worth much.

You can't just slap a guy at center for a couple games and call him a center. Canucks need a long term, legit center. Also, you are proving my point. Canucks center and defense is pretty bare. Those two positions are a hell of a lot more important than wingers. Wingers can be found anywhere.

Willie was developed primarily as a centre. He played centre when he was called up in 2015.
Drafting Matthews changed that. The only reason he doesnt play C anymore is because we have had 3 centres who were all drafted higher than him blocking the spaces.

I also don't see how you having zero wingers proves your point

So basically he hasn't played center in YEARS. I think the Canucks go and find a younger, cheaper, and actual center. Nylander is great, the Canucks are just not a fit for him

Maybe, but I dont think not playing C for awhile magically removes capability. Give him the offseason to plan as a 2C and you'll be happy.

Or hell, he will be your best winger by a lot. Toss him up with Petey and watch him cook
