Montreal Canadiens signed Sean Monahan (1 Year / $2,000,000 AAV)

Was this a good signing?

Fr? OK, how much?

Available doesn't mean the team wants to get rid of him. MTL doesn't have great depth at center (Suzuki, Monahan(isssh), Dach(isssh), Dvorak, Evans and nothing else in the pipeline short term) and Dvorak was 2C for nearly half of last season. PLD would change that of course.

The cost for a 27 y.o. 2 way middle 6 center, good on faceoffs, on a reasonable contract would be the COL 2024 1st (25 OA+) lottery protected, and we could send another pick back or a retained Edmundson to sweet the deal.

BTW, it is way less than MTL paid for Dvorak and Lehkonen's return (who everybody claimed was a 4LW before being traded to COL).
