Where is the value in Tom Wilson for a first round pick? Explain it to me. In 10 years he only played three full season and those three full seasons came in his first four years. His style of play with his body breaking down does not justify a first round pick. In the last three years he’s played only 158 games of regular season out of a possible 246. I think you need to reevaluate what Tom Wilson is worth. With Washington on the verge of a rebuild a second round pick, and even a prospect is more than fair. Although I did not put a prospect in the deal, so if you wanna beat me up for that fine.

Again For the people saying just buy Riley out yes his cap it would only be 300,000 and change this year but next year would be $1,333,334. That might not sound like a lot but when you’re competing for the cup that’s a lot of cap space. I’d rather trade or package an asset for this Space.

If you watch any Bruins hockey, you know Forbert is a force for us on the PK. I wouldn’t trade him over MG.


Lysell will make the NHL team and surprise a lot of people

Reilly cap hit next year isnt bad because cap is projected to take a huge jump after this upcoming szn, plus overages come off the board, so Bruins are projected to have plenty of cap space so trading assets (which BOS is lacking already) to get rid of basically nothing is not worth it. They desperately need the cap space this year

Forbort is absolute garbage unless theres a PK (in which he just blocks shots), plenty other guys out there that can kill pens, 5v5 hes quite the nuisance

In the past 3 years he's played 158 out of 220 games, with 49 of those 62 missing games coming this year because of a freak ACL injury. To put that in context, the two years before those he played more games than Pastrnak. In his career yes he's only played a full 82 three times, but he's played in at least 75% of his team's games in every season he's been in the league but this one. Once again, Pastrnak has only played a full 82 twice. It is fair to be concerned about the way his style will impact his body going forward, but what you cited as his inability to stay healthy up to this point is not only misleading but your numbers are straight up wrong.

Like it or not Wilson is a top 6 winger who can consistently put up 40-50 points. Throwing out his age 18-21 seasons, during which he clearly should've been playing in the AHL or juniors, he is a career .54ppg player. Throw out his age 22 season and that jumps up to .61. Not world-beating numbers but once again in line with what you would expect from a solid top 6 winger.

Of course, points aren't everything. Wilson plays a uniquely disruptive and physical style that NHL teams and fans love. He hits and fights yes, but he is a truly elite puck retriever that also has enough skill and offensive ability to actually play with the best players. Add onto that all his other "intangibles" such as the fact he is a cup-winner, plays on the PK and PP2, is one of the caps' most consistent playoff performers, and is clearly being groomed to take over the captaincy when Ovi and Backstrom retire, and you end up with a truly unique player in the league that checks off every box that NHL GM's salivate over.

Tyler Bertuzzi, Tanner Jeannot, Nick Foligno, Barclay Goodrow, and Blake Coleman have all returned 1st round picks in recent years -- those were all at the deadline too, rather than the offseason. Jordan Greenway, Lars Eller, Garnet Hathaway, and Connor Brown returned 2nds just this past year.

On top of all of that, the Caps are not rebuilding, want to extend Wilson, and as I said earlier view him as their future captain. They also already have huge holes at top 6w. He may be objectively "worth" a 1st round pick -- comparable to Bertuzzi. What it would take for the Caps to actually entertain moving him, however, is much more than that. A single 2nd round pick in next year's draft is not even worth the retained money.

I love how often people make claims about Wilson being injury prone based solely on looking at his games played numbers. Ok, lets go through his career season-by-season.

2013-14: Played 82 of a possible 82 games.

2014-15: Played 67 of a possible 82 games. He missed the start of the season due to a broken fibula he suffered in a fall during the offseason. Rumor was it was a skateboarding accident. Definitely not related to his style of play.

2015-16: Played 82 of a possible 82 games.

2016-17: Played 82 of a possible 82 games.

2017-18: Played 78 of a possible 82 games.

2018-19: Played 63 of a possible 82 games. This was due to suspension for the Sundqvist hit, not injury.

2019-20: Played 68 of a possible 69 games. This was the first Covid-shortened season.

2020-21: Played 47 of a possible 55 games. This was the other Covid-shortened season. The games he missed were from the Carlo suspension.

2021-22: Played 78 of a possible 82 games.

2022-23: Played 33 of a possible 82 games. He missed most of that time due to a chance knee-on-knee collision in the neutral zone at the end of the previous season in which he tore his ACL. Had nothing to due with his style of play. He also missed 7 games for a hairline fracture in his foot that he received blocking a shot. That's the only significant injury he's ever had that can be attributed to his style of play, but it was due to his strong defensive work rather than his hitting.

TL;DR - Wilson's never had a significant injury due to his hitting.
