Description
Solid deal for AVS.

If there was an actual market for Johansen, then I'm sure Trotz wouldn't have made this trade. Clearly there wasn't.

Nashville got nothing for Johansen and still has to pay half his salary for 2 years

That's 4 million in free space, I don't blame em

I feel like there has to be something we don't know about his injury. Similar to when the Canes acquired Pacioretty for pretty much nothing.

Vegas was desperate for cap space. Nashville isn't

He's 1 year removed from 60+ points. Getting nothing for him while retaining is awful for Nashville. Just keep him and rebuild

We don't know that yet. But you're probably right.

In an offensive season never seen by the likes of Nashville where everyone had their numbers pumped up. Maybe they don't like what they see with his injury, maybe Trotz is uncomfortable with the player that he is. I suspect we'll see some big signings with Nashville over the next 2 years (UFA or RFA)

I think this could mean one of two things:

1) They're going after PLD
2) They're trying to maximize the amount of cap space they have for a loaded 2024 UFA class

Trading him and retaining on him is fine. Getting nothing for it is not fine.

Why? Do you really think Trotz would trade him for nothing if he didn't have to?

Like, you could argue letting Johansen play next year and increases his value would be smarter. But there's also the possibility he gets even worse and then you're stuck with his contract. Not to mention the Preds have several RFAs that they need to extend this season.

I'd take the gamble and buy him out next offseason if it goes badly or wait post ufa this year for who misses out

This clearly takes them out of the Indecision Zone. It's a good move to get the rebuild started. Plus, they pay most of the buyout after the cap rises.
