I don't know if Blackwood is going to return to form, but for the Sharks this is a low-risk high-reward trade. He'll most certainly be signed on a prove-it deal that'll take him to UFA and he will hopefully get Kahkonen to step his game up. Good trade Mike.

Good trade for New Jersey because they get something more than zero for a guy they were going to lose for nothing because they weren't going to make him a qualifying offer.

I find it difficult to believe that San Jose would qualify him at $3,360,000, so they may have just wasted a pick, albeit a low one. If they aren't planning to qualify him, then they've just traded for a few days of exclusive negotiating rights before he becomes a UFA, but it could work out ok for them if they can get him to sign for less. I thought they would have gone for somebody better though.
