Description

The team Tom Fitzgerald has put together is incredible. Up and down the lineup, this is a deep playoff team, not even a question. So now that Toffoli is a Devil, I raise some questions about the offseason,

1. I think it’s becoming clear that none of the UFAs are coming back (I re-signed Hawryluk and Pinho here to fill Utica spots.) In regards to our RFAs, I think Meier, Bahl and McLeod are definites. Boqvist and Bastian (IMO) are expendables but can return, what do we think? With my estimates here, there is 3.5M left in space

2. In terms of prospects, where do we think Foote, Clarke and Holtz pan out this season? Main roster? Utica? Trade pieces maybe?

3. Fitz made a comment not too long ago about getting back into the first round, any thoughts into that?

4. Is Simon Nemec NHL ready? Does Fitz look for a veteran for that 3rd RHD spot?

5. Connor Hellebuyck? (or Saros, Swayman, etc.) what moves the needle?

Great team, they did an incredible job
I think an Hellebuyck would put them at the top, but I don’t see it happening

I was big on Hellebuyck if we could get him for max 5 years, but that doesn’t seem likely. This is a tough year for goalie movement with the cap and FA’s, but honestly I think we’ll be okay with a Vitek/Schmid tandem for this coming season. I think Fitz looks into one more move for the off-season, adding a RD from FA (possibly trade) to give Nemec another year in Utica. I’m leaning towards Clifton, Gudas or Mayfield. Someone that can play simple and physical defense and wouldn’t be out of place in the top 4 when injuries happen. It would be nice to not have to have 2 rookie dmen to start the year, especially without really upgrading the goaltending behind them. Also I think the 4th line is Boqvist-McLeod-Bastian with Foote and Lazar swapping in on wings.
