4 years walks Bouchard to free agency, that's not a great idea. And when Dobson signed for 3 x $4M just last summer, $6M is more than Bouchard should be getting for 1 additional year. You're valuing that 4th year at $12M!!

I love Dezzy but he's NOT a top-4 defender. You definitely need to switch him and Ceci.

And Edmonton isn't buying out Campbell as that would create 8 years of dead cap - basically their entire Cup window. Besides, the buyout period has closed.

I think EDM can buy him out, not that they should, because McLeod filed for arbitration.

They can only if the arbitration case goes the whole way and results in an award. In the scenario above it obviously didn't, as they never award 4 year deals.

So Edmonton won't get another buyout window this summer (if it plays out as above).

I should say there IS a scenario where they buy out Campbell: in the event Evan Bouchard signs an offer sheet that doesn't fit into Edmonton's current cap situation. Let's say they're offering him 2 x $3.8M and he signs an offer sheet for (say) 7 x $8M with another team. Now they need to find $4M in a quick hurry to match. In this scenario I can see them ceasing all negotiations with McLeod, letting that go to award (a 1-year deal) and then using the resulting buyout window on Campbell, freeing up $3.5M to put towards Bouchard's forced 7-year deal.

Other than that, Campbell gets at least 1 more year to settle in and provide competitive 1B goalering. If he doesn't, he'll be gone next summer.
