He has arbitration rights and is coming off an excellent 20 + goal season while being the main piece coming back in the PLD trade. He has all the leverage and you will probably have to overpay to get him to stay long-term. You don't want to sign him short-term since you run the risk of the PLD situation happening again which is why y'all went out of your way to trade for contract controlled players.

The arbitrator often sides with the player in terms of AAV and only gives you a one year deal. For those reasons the player typically has more of a benefit from arbitration compared to the team when it comes to arbitration.

I originally had Iafallo and Nino swapped but then remembered your coach is Rick Bowness so the only chance you have of an elite talent like Ehlers playing more than 16 minutes is if he is with an elite defensive forward, such as Iafallo.
