If Nylander were good enough to be NHL top it would’ve happened already. He’s not, and neither is he suited for the bottom six. That’s why he’s been in the minors for his entire career.

I can't entirely agree with that, he had a good year in the minors and locked well in the top six with the short time he had. If he is good during camp I am sure he will get his spot in the top 6.

Who would you drop out of the top 6 to fit him?

I would play Nylander with Malkin, and Rakell with Sid; Jake Sid Rakell had some insane chemistry and put Rust on the third line which would strengthen our bottom six.

Last summer, a lot of us felt a good bounce back season for Zucker was coming. I am getting a similar feeling with Rust this summer. I think he has a good season and you keep him in the top-six. If Rust disappoints up to December with no signs of improvement, then I would throw him on the third line.

I do though, see Rust as a third line player for the Penguins eventually. Just don't think it will be this year.

He will not. The Pens top six is set with Sid, Geno, Guentz, Rakell, Rust, and Smith. Nylander isn’t good enough to displace any of them. His presence on the team is to provide depth scoring in the bottom six, unless they decide to go with more of a shutdown bottom six. Problem is, Nylander also isn’t as good or useful as Eller, Acciari, or Nieto. So Nylander may well end up a healthy scratch or waived and sent down.

He’s a safe bet to clear waivers as he was placed on them more than once last season and no other team was interested, even teams desperate for scoring passed on him. Dubas didn’t re-sign Nylander, that was done by the interim GM after Hextall was fired. We don’t even know if Dubas has any interest in this player. Dubas has a history with guys like Johnsson, not with Nylander.
