Build around Pastrnak

Created by: Quaider11
Team: 2024-25 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 7, 2023
Published: Jul. 15, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This would be the ideal plan for next offseason
Getting Pastrnak an elite two-way Center and an elite winger who he’s very good friends with will really maximize Pastrnak’s production
Picked up some experienced bottom pairing dmen to round out the defensive core
Swayman and Frederic contracts reflect what I think they will get this summer (4x4 and 2x2)

Now to prepare for all the big names to get extended and the top free agents to be Mark Scheifele and Tyler Bertuzzi :(

Barring a setback, you probably get a better offer for Ullmark, but this is a pretty good vision. BOS should “take a year off” and let the bonuses expire, and I think this would be a pretty good follow-up. Slight adjustment, I might swap Lindholm and Zacha since I think Lindholm would be better with Marchand and Zacha better with Pasta.

Once again, There is zero chance of Linus Ullmark ever waiving for Winnipeg. Pretty sure that all Canadian teams are on his no trade list.

Elias Lindholm isn't an elite two-way forward and won't be worth $9M for his age 30-37 seasons.

Did you watch him in 21-22? Ask Calgary fans how good he was in the dot he would have won the Selke that year if Bergeron hadn’t played and even then a lot of people made the argument that Lindholm should have won it over Bergeron

They have very similar styles and I think he’s basically the best way to seamlessly replace Bergeron in the lineup and if you put him on a line with productive wingers he’s a 65-80 point center

9m AAV might be a slight overpay but there’s no way he gets below 8m AAV on the open market so if that’s what it takes to land him I don’t think that’s a big deal especially considering he hasn’t dealt with any major injuries that would slow him down as he gets older

Yeah Winnipeg probably is on that list I just thought of teams that could need a goalie in the foreseeable future

Did YOU watch him in 21-22? Lindholm was nowhere near Selke level and the people who had this argument of winning over Bergeron were wrong. Not just because Lindholm wasn't at the level, but Bergeron has pretty much the best defensive season in the last two decades at least. 2021-22 was more of an outlier season for Lindholm especially playing with two elite wingers. He is more of great 2C than an actual 1C. Fringe 1C who needs strong wingers.

$9M is way too much, it's not just a slight overpay and injury or not, most non-elite forwards regress a lot in their 30s and Lindholm is unlikely to be an exception. Second, it doesn't even fit the Bruins timeline. If you have him as your 1C, you would need a really strong 2C (not Zacha) behind him on a real contender.

While I agree that Lindholm isn’t perfect and in an ideal world he’s not my first choice for 1C I really don’t see any realistic alternatives considering that Aho and Matthews are unlikely to become free agents
The other possibility would be to attempt to trade for an RFA like Petterson or even Beniers but neither of them will be available and if somehow a trade did happen we’d be giving up way too much
If not Lindholm who else?

I don’t think he has his own solution. He’d rather just waste Pasta and McAvoy’s primes with Zacha and Coyle as a 1C/2C.
