Between signing Galchenyuk and Johnson off presumably offer sheets, there's no way we'd have enough draft picks to pull off the trades you'd like to do.

Most free agents also don't sign with teams if they expect to be traded only a few weeks later. GMs who do this ruin their and their team's reputations for years following. In short, you can't just sign the six best free agents on the market and then trade them in with the rest of the league being okay with that.

Oh, and you're 18m over the salary cap.

Cizikas would probably be the best 6th line center in hockey.
