Flyers decline. That 2nd and 4th is what it will take to dump Joseph. Then it’s Laughton and a 7th for Boucher and Hamara. The Flyers turned down a 1st and 2nd for Laughton I would rather have those picks then those 2 players for sure

Not going to pay all that for an average 3rd line forward (that got slightly inflated stats for getting Brady Tkachuk ice time, but still poor stats)

Remove the 2nd maybe

And even then, Boucher + Hamara + 4th to upgrade Joseph to Laughton (really not as much as an upgrade as it made out on CF) is too high of a price

PASS

I don't know who people think Laughton is but it's not Konecny

Yeah but what about the dump for Laughton then? tears of joy

Some people really don't understand how this value vs salary thing work

You're not going to get what you think you'll get for Laughton

I mean, Reilly Smith was just had for a 3rd round pick. 2.0 more but a much better player too

Anthony Duclair (same cap hit) was jus had for a 5th and a 4th liner

Joel Edmundson 50% retained was just had for a 3rd + 7th

Ross Colton was just had for a 2nd round pick (better than Laughton as well, and younger)

Toffoli for Sharangovich and a 3rd

Kevin Hayes at 50% retained for a 6th......

Taylor Hall... for FREE

Sean Durzi for a 2nd round pick

Alex Newhook for basically two 2nd round picks...

But of course, Scott freaking Laughton is so much more valuable than everyone else tears of joy

There's plenty of deals to indicate players like Laughton can net at least a first. If Nick Foligno can get a first, Laughton easily can. Also he's hardly a cap dump unlike Joseph.

Yeah Flyers could get a 1st from a playoffs team at the deadline, when teams are desperately trying to gear up for the playoffs so the market is very different at the deadline. No one would be stupid enough to spend a 1st now for Laughton when you can have Reilly Smith types for a 3rd

Also, a lot of people don't understand how the whole thing works regarding cap dumps.

It's not like because one player is overpaid that he is 100% overpaid.

What's funny is that both Joseph and Laughton had 30 pts in 2021-22. Sur, the following year Laughton was more productive but the guy plays on the top-6 and has similar ice time (with PP to boot) to Brady Tkachuk for Christ's sake. Joseph played in the top-6 at the end of 2021-22 when he joined the Sens and had 12 pts in 11 games... But offense is not even Joseph's game, he's a defensive forward who has had elite PK metrics

The reality (comes from NHL executives directly) is that every player is evaluated by NHL teams to a certain amount, then you have the AAV.

In a Laughton for Joseph swap, the price would be the difference in Joseph value vs his AAV + then Laughton's value vs his AAV

And this is really not as much as some people are make it out to be due to lack of understanding of how it works.
