isn't that every team with good players? Vegas didn't make playoffs in 2022, this isn't exclusively an Edmonton problem

Edmonton started with a 21 man roster last season. Vegas started with a 20 man roster IIRC.

All I'm saying is the depth that other teams have playing in their top 12 fwd core is a lot better than what Edmonton is going to be running out on a nightly basis. To where is an injury was sustained they'd be more productive than what Edmonton would be if 97 missed significant time

No team could replace the loss of McDavid, there simply isn't another player like him in the world.

However, Edmonton has very good offensive depth. They were the deepest team offensively last season and they'll be one of the top teams again this season.

Oh... So that's good... it sort of reminds me of the Tyson Barrie deal TBH... but a better player getting a cheaper deal

I feel like I've taken this ride before...... you're gonna bring up how they had the most 20 goal scorers last year...... and then the rebuttal is going to be that more than half of those 20 goal scorers are either A) in the top 6 or B) no longer with the team to realize hey maybe the depth isn't like it was last year.

So instead of repeating the same conversation Im just gonna refer to the above to see if you have a take that proves otherwise.

How do you measure offensive depth?

Depth outside of the top 6...... you're top 6 are supposed to be good and around the 20 goal mark.

I wasn't going to bring up 20 goal scorers, but since you did, could you tell me which of McDavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins and Hyman are NO LONGER WITH THE TEAM this year?

Basically, do you have forwards who are currently in your bottom 6 lines that if needed to would have limited drop off if they played top 6 minutes. You look at the teams that end up winning it all they have that.

This is where the whole read the whole quote and not just the part you want to read...... I said either A) Are in the top 6 OR B) No longer with the team

Outside the top-6:

Foegele scored 2.09 P/60 last season (1st line rate)
McLeod scored 1.86 P/60 last season (2nd line rate)

Those 2 form the basis for one of the best 3rd lines in the league. As a comparison, in Pittsburgh only Crosby and Malkin scored at a higher rate than Foegele, and McLeod was virtually tied with Guentzel (1.87 P/60).

That's depth. And they're back.

While I appreciate bringing my team into this as it is a fair counter argument...... I would expect one of those 2 to garner top 6 minutes with Connor Brown returning to game action after suffering an ACL tear (I'm not saying that Brown isn't good we don't know how well he is going to do coming off that surgery). So that takes one of them out of the bottom 6 and into top 6 time making the depth even more miniscule if Brown doesn't return to prior form.

Brown has been training all summer with McDavid. There's a possibility we see him start on the 3rd line but it's unlikely.

And he's a pretty good 3rd liner. He averaged 1.86 P/60 in his last 3 years with the Sens.

How does half the rebuttal not even apply? Outside of 2 of your 10 goal scorers (I just remembered you used 10 not 20 my apologies) the remainder are either soundly in the top 6 or no longer on the team it is literal facts. Also, 10 were really setting the bar at 10 goals? I know its not much more, but wouldn't 15 show more signs of depth... which if you look at VGK 7 players had over 15 and 3 were at 14 and also Barbashev was on pace scoring 6 in 23 (Which gave him 16 total for the year between VGK and STL)..... of those goal scorers 2 aren't with the team this upcoming year and they are all forwards too meaning you have 8 players with at least 15 goals scored compared to 8 with at least 10 which is better depth?

Again as stated previously....... I doubt they rush him back to significant minutes since he hasn't played in a game in over a year......... training and practice is one thing every player will tell you they truly don't get you completely ready for game action

If that's the case (you're making assumptions here, but I'll play along), Holloway - McLeod - Brown will be one of the best 3rd lines in the league.

So you're moving the goalposts now? How convenient.

Nothing you wrote disproves Edmonton as one of the deeper teams this year.

I mean by setting the bar at 10 goals you are saying teams like St. Louis, San Jose, and Arizona had just as much depth as Vegas, Edmonton, LA, Seattle, Calgary, and Colorado in the west, and that they had more depth than Vancouver, Dallas, Minnesota, Winnipeg, and Nashville........ however if you look at 15+ goal scorers that is when these teams begin differentiating w/ the only team to make the Western playoffs with = 15 goal scorers as STL SJS and ARI (which btw STL and ARI had 5 and SJS had 6) was EDM with 5. And if you look across the entire league only 2 teams made the playoffs with less than 6 15+ goal scorers those teams were Edmonton and the Isles. The Isles have Sorokin and the Oilers have McDavid Draisaitl. That is the reason I moved the goalposts because it actually paints a more realistic picture.

While Edmonton does have more depth than other teams I would not classify it as one of the deeper teams.
