Projected lineup and depth

Created by: GhostGM92
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 3, 2023
Published: Sep. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I've never seen this much depth before on the Red Wings. Lots of different line combinations you could go with. I would try Kostin with Larkin and DeBrincat. Also the fourth line center could be either Veleno, Rasmussen, Kasper or Danielson. Soderblom could see some time too because of his size. They almost have too many wingers so I could see another trade happening before the season starts. I think they are going with seven dman but I could see them moving Ben Chiarot or Olli Määttä.

Yeah. The talent in this roster may not be what some call top notch, but the sheer depth is insane.

I see 4 lines the Wings can literally roll....

And my hot take: Wings will have 9 20 goal.scorers this year. Not many teams are entering the season saying that is a real possibility.

Maybe a Leafs fan, but seeing what Stevie has done here is pretty damn impressive. This team is going to be better than many think.

I don't see that many but maybe six or seven 20 goal scorers and possibly eight if Walman or Ghost can score 20

Cat, Larkin, Raymond, Perron, Copp, Rasmussen (break.out year), Compher, Seider, Fabbri and possibly Ghost or Sprong.

Yeah.... they have that in them 100%

I love Rasmussen so I wouldn't rule that out. I don't see Copp scoring 20 but maybe if he's healthy from start to finish. Fabbri can't stay healthy, Moritz Seider probably won't be on the first powerplay and is in a more defensive role but I wouldn't be shocked cus he has the talent. It's going to be a interesting year. I wouldn't rule out Patrick Kane signing either.

This is a team of so many possibilities. Wouldn't sell it short.

Beyind the first line, this is scoring by committee. And those teams tend to win games.

I had to dig in my archive to find this thread lol.

Wings have 13 different goal scorers to start the year.

My hot take of nine 20 goal scorers just may hold water🤣

For Wings fans, I am sincerely hoping that the balance of this offense holds up. Truly impressive. Truly deep.

Today was their best game five on five but the other games they really relied heavily on special teams. And so far I mean they've had no problem scoring goals as I think they are leading the league in that department. And they've had really good goaltending so far with Husso and Reimer. I would caution though because it's still extremely early but so far so good. They need to show more consistency in their five on five play and need to continue to work on limiting turnovers. They've allowed too many breakaways off of stretch passes. So if they can limit their turnovers and limit the amount of stretch passes they're giving up for breakaways and they can continue to be strong on their powerplay and penalty kill they can win a lot of games. My question is can Larkin play like this consistently throughout the season? Can Alex DeBrincat be consistent with his goal scoring because if they can then this is a really good team. Lucas Raymond has been a decent playmaker too but he needs to do it constantly as he dropped off big time in his first two seasons near the end. That's why I would still think about signing Patrick Kane.

As you said it is early in the season, and by no means would I expect them to keep up this start.

My Leafs have been exceptionally sloppy in their own end early on, but there is so much time to shire things up. I would say the same for the Wings.

We both agree the depth in this team is something else.... and early on, it is certainly proving itself to be something to deal with. I am.not sure the line combos we see right now hold. Wrapping my head around Perron getting 3rd line minutes lol.

We need.to revisit this a the 20 game mark for sure and compare notes.

Perron looks slow but he did last year at this time and got faster as the season went on. He's getting old so it takes him some time to get his legs going.
