Part 1 - 10 years of bruins draft failure

Created by: dons_weeney
Team: 2023-24 Custom Team
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 29, 2023

Description
All players were drafted 5 picks or fewer AFTER the Bruin's selection. Only one selection per pick:
For example, if the Bruins had the 30th overall pick, I only chose one player up to 5 spots above that pick, even if there were 2 good players. ***Debrincat was 9 selections after Frederic.

Next to these selections are the Bruins actual draft picks.

On the right wing column, I've listed all the picks the Bruins traded away, and what the actual pick was, not the potential pick.

I'll have a part 2 with the actual lineup of missed picks.

Scouting and development has not been bostons strong point. Add in all the young players they traded that went on to become stars (Seguin, thronton, Kessel, wheeler) it's amazing they've been able to win a cup and be competitive for as long as they have been.

They aren't all misses or failed. That's the draft, you hit sometimes, some others you don't. Anything can happen in 3-7 or even the 2nd round.

I would agree with 2012 #145 (Payne), 2015 #14 (DeBrusk), 2015 #15 (Senyshyn), 2016 #29 (Frederic), 2019 #30 (Beecher). Vaakanainen is debatable and maybe Arnesson. The rest was a good pick or fine at the time.

I think you have an unreasonable expectation of what a successful bottom-of-1st-round pick is, and this is some absolutely ridiculous 2nd guessing. 18yo prospects aren't a sure thing, especially after the top 5-10 picks (depending on the year)

Jake DeBrusk is absolutely a success. Frederic is a push - he's been a very good 3rd liner as a 29th pick. Do you hope to get a better player than that? Yea. But if he was a sure thing 1st liner, he'd have been gone 20 picks earlier.

Senyshun is the only one I completely disagree with (and maybe Subban - 1st round picks on goalies is seldom a good idea) - that was completely overthinking it. But yea - if they'd managed to pick one of Chabot / Barzal / Connor there, not bad.

Agreed, yea their drafting hasn't been great but of course they got pasta at 25, and mcavoy at 14, not to mention swayman and Carlo too. Enough to build a core, but a lack of assets after that. I just made this for fun, not necessarily as a critique.

Oh yeah I don't have a big issue with their drafting, it hasn't been great, but it hasn't been horrible. The title is kinda a joke. They've drafted pasta and mcavoy WAY behind where they'd go in a redraft, plus swayman, Carlo etc.
