What does Hertl cost

Description
Thomas Hertl is an underrated forward IMO. I've always loved watching him play.

With San Jose heading down the full rebuild route, and based on his age, how much would it cost to acquire him?

1) While he's still quite effective, he's got an incredibly long and pricey deal and he probably will be declining in the last 3 years of said deal, but that still leaves 3-4 great years.

2) He's kind of like a more consistently healthy Monahan, so he can take a 2C role behind Zuke, or he could line up on Zuke's wing.

3) I would expect the Sharks would want to get fair value for him, but like the Karlsson deal, they probably won't mind sweetening a deal by taking back some bad cap short term
Trades
1.
SJS
  1. Beck, Owen
  2. Dvorak, Christian
  3. Trudeau, William
Additional Details:
Unprotected 1st in 2024

Habs best Center prospect in Beck

An NHL-ready two way defender in Trudeau who cannot get the time of day from the Habs

Dvorak is a good 3C who can play 2C in a pinch. He's overpaid by about 1.2M/season, but the Sharks won't care about that. Also if they play him in offensive situations, maybe they can trade him at the TDL when his deal is expiring.

He's the only positive the Sharks have this year except for a couple rookies Quinn benches or misuses.

Benning is arguably are top RD and we're subsidizing two teams in the Eastern conference. We're about to subsidize another at the TDL.

Full marks btw for NOT doing retention. That's not a joke either, I'm serious.

I hear you. Fans on this site can be a little rude with that stuff. No team is retaining for 7 years...

I think the difference is I actually really appreciate Hertl as a player where as most ACGMs see him as a middle 6 plug of sorts (no idea why, but they do).

And to be clear, I think Hertl would kill it on the Habs.
I'm too negative this morning.

I think Beck is a solid B prospect. If you look at Horvat and Fiala deals, which I think are good comparables, they got a middling 1st and a B prospect, plus some other pieces in Horvat's case. I get that you want to maximize value, but with his age and his contract, and point production, comparing him to Horvat is generous.

I actually value Hertl above Horvat and Dubois personally.
Especially with what I think is reasonable term. His game ages well.

The Sharks would hate to lose Hertl, but that unprotected 2024 1st would be very tempting.

As for the other pieces, the Sharks need a young goalie so maybe Primeau. They also need a puck moving defenseman, so maybe Barron.

As a Sharks fan, nothing wows me here except the 1st.
Especially since we don't need to trade Hertl. He's a fan favorite, but I would hope we would do this trade so the fans would riot and we could get rid of Grier and Quinn.

Value wise it's close though, but we don't need Dvorak. He's a cap dump to us. To anyone I'd imagine.

Why the Grier hate? He’s got a solid scouting department set up and has done a solid job rebuilding the prospect pool and setting up the sharks for the future! We are rebuilding and while this year sucks it was by design and necessary! Sharks need 1-2 more bad years and very high 1 st round picks to solidify the future.

This is reasonable, I would angle for Mailoux though lost sharks fans would be disgusted in that idea.
I love Hertl but let’s be honest he is an elite #2 C or an average 1C. You’re not going to great the bank for him and we’re not getting back what we think is fair value.

I hope he stays but if he goes I think that 1st is top 10 protected and I expect this might be the best we get.

Very realistic asks. I would do that!

Interesting. I would say that's a hard sell to most fans, but I respect your opinion.

With good wings Hertl
Is a solid 2 way top 6/ top line C and those are valuable. He also plays a style of hockey they ages well and the guys a fitness freak so age won’t be as brutal as a guy like Gallaher. The guys who played with Marleau all have insane fitness levels to try and keep up with him (Pavelski Thornton and Burns attribute their longevity to trying to keep up with Marleau fitness level and all have aged well!)
