Flames never do that trade either.

Klingberg does nothing for the Flanmes if they're rebuilding, so it really offers them no value. Jarnkrot and Brodie are the same, theyve been in calgary and calgary doesnt want them, so thats 3 pieces they dont want. Kampf is a nice defensive player but hes not a 3rd liner, he just doesan;t have the hands.

Youd have to have a huge leap in faith in the leafs prospect pool that mInten and cowan can be more than what the experts predict (possibly bottom 6 guys) and that niemala, can be a top 4 guy.

It guts the leafs but doesn;t provide flames with anything top end.

The whole point is to jumpstart the CGY rebuild. Trading 2 expiring contracts and Weegar for 3 top prospects and 2 picks. The players going back to Calgary are just for salary. No reason Conroy can't flip Brodie, Klingberg, and Jarnkrok at the deadline for more picks/prospects.

Too much risk, you only have 3 retention spots so trying to move brodie, klingberg, jarnkrot, tanev, zadorov etc with only 1 retention spot means you probably get poor value. So you've essentially watered down your own sales by taking 3 guys you want to move.

And calling them 3 top prospects is abit disingenuous, as they wouldn;t be the top prospects in CGY system or most other places. And the 1st is probably low 1st round and the 3rd is THREE drafts away.

Its not in CGY's interest at all.

CGY will do far better trading them individually.
