Canes I know don't like this trade, but you guys are the only real competitor with some cap space.

I dont think a contender wants Carter, unless you overpay and retain, and even then Carter might not waive. Hes barely playing and could be an upgrade at 4C for some, but who will need a 4C?

He had just 29 pts in 79 games and a -16 last year, and has zero pts in 10 games, so theres no point in thinking he'd be a 3C.

Its not good either. Hes 34 yrs old, signed for 2 years and his last good year was 4 yrs ago at just 31 pts. Hes a 4th line center and 34 yrs old, when you can easily get those 8-12 minutes a night covered by a youngster or a league minimum guy.
