You could add every Penguins 1st-round pick for the rest of eternity and there's still no scenario Jeff F***ing Carter ends up back in Columbus, either by our choice or his.

If you remove him and Rakell and can still somehow make the contracts work, there could be something to build on around Laine and Peeke for Pouin and the 2025 1st.

Honestly, this entire thing is kinda a disaster.
Carter to Columbus makes McDavid to Calgary look plausible.
Laine's having an awful season by his standards, so his value is at an all-time low, and I'm not willing to call Peeke an upgrade over 3rd pairing defenseman we have now.
As of right now, I'm not interested in moving Rakell, and I'm not interested in aquiring Laine or Peeke. That's not even getting into the fact that the Pens are giving up a 1st, a 2nd, and a handful of young guys that include their top D prospect.
