deadline

Description
This would be my approach. I am still confused by their Tatar add. I assume they want to give him an opportunity and will try to resell him for more at the deadline. Potential they see a potential upside in the deal over the year.

Thoughts?

Yeah if they’re selling again next year he’ll be the biggest target on the market they can still probably get this much just from a bidding war lol

There is risk in that. You risk a guy getting injured and then you get nothing for them.

that can be said for basically any player on a team thats selling, a lot of players that get traded only have half the year left on their contract

Absolutely. I would sell quicker than most GM's do though. I see what Calgary is doing and I think it's a dangerous game. We all know they are going to sell and should sell but they are holiding onto quite valuable guys. They are holding on for an extra small piece, risking losing the entire value.

I thought St Louis handled things perfectly last year. They started selling their guys early. (although still later in the year then now).

The only reason I would be against trading Larsson is Seattle doesn't have a viable RD coming up in their prospect system and anyone they draft would be several years out. Topi would have to be part of a deal for Larsson as well as the first because Seattle needs a RD prospect that one could reasonably think can be a top 4 D man in the next year or two, otherwise Seattle's better off keeping Larsson and trying to re-sign him in the off season before considering trading him next year if they're sellers again.

For Tatar, I view it as a low risk move. I think he can do more in Seattle than he did in Colorado, so either he gets them back in the hunt and they don't sell, or more likely he does more in Seattle and they can flip him for more than they paid. Since they paid their own 5th for him, Florida's 5th would likely be worse than their own meaning they actually lose value on him. I'd like to assume he increases value and can garner Florida's 4th instead, but Florida wouldn't necissarily pay that today.

It's less common to see a player of Larsson's caliber get shipped out with multiple years of retention. That doesn't mean it won't happen. I think the Leafs' offer here is quite close, it would likely require a tad more greasing as that pick would be later this year than Seattle would like for it to be. Judging by what people believe a guy such as Tanev could fetch Calgary, I believe a Larsson deal this season would be crazy expensive, albeit quite justified.
