Description

I have no interest in giving up a 1st round pick for a rental this year. I would only make this trade if a reasonable extension were in place. Here it is 3.5m x 2 years. Adam Klapka would be added size and centre depth.

Cap is compliant with a 23 man roster. Send Klapka down here, I am just showing depth.

23 years old. Waiver exempt. 6'8 - 245lb centre. 9 goals, 9 assists (18 pts) in 24 AHL games this year. We have his RFA rights going into next year.

I would love to add a guy like that to our depth. Could be a very solid add to our 4th line next year.

Giving up a 1st for Tanev at this point in his career seems like a bad idea.

No thanks.

Klapka + the Tanev extension just help justify the 1st round pick. He has low value but he adds an element that the Leafs could use in a potential call up. Leafs can benefit from a HUGE 13th forward/centre. It's an option they don't have right now.

Robertson has world class compete level. He never gives up and always goes 100% effort. Really like him. It will be interesting to see if he can put it all together at the NHL level long term though!

I will give credit for looking a little deeper for options. It's worth more investigation and not a terrible idea.
