Change of Scenery - Save Huberdeau

Created by: SwarmChair
Team: 2023-24 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 22, 2023
Published: Dec. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Two players who signed massive contracts with their new team and are not living up to it.

Huberdeau is a good bet to regain his form on the Devils which have a lot of speed and skill like those Florida teams Huberdeau used to play on.

Calgary gets Timo who brings some grit and scoring and could be a point per game player given more spotlight.

Devils already have an anchor in Timo Meier's 8 years at almost $9M per. Not sure they would take another gamble on Huberdeau and spend effectively $19M per on the two of them for the next 8 years. I think at this stage both Huberdeau and Meier may be unmoveable and if their play carries over to next year it will present a real problem for both teams. Personally I think Huberdeau is missing Barkov, and perhaps he may need a similar type of player to get him back on track.

As a non Panther's fan I'm pretty sure he wasn't with Barkov that year before he was traded

Alright then who is Huberdeau a good match with
I mean personally i just think he was not built for the West
Its a tough road schedule with more travel time because of greater distances between teams
Its generally more physical in the West too

I wouldnt mind him in MTL but that Cap is too much of a commitment for us no matter how you slice it
Maybe CGY pays to bring Johnny Hockey back to CGY?

He isn't a good match for anyone. It was a terrible contract before it was signed

To be fair so is Skinners.
He found a way to rebound in BUF to an extent
So maybe the key isnt moving him but finding a Coach that can compliment his style as they begin their rebuild as sellers this TDL
I just refuse to believe his talent just disappeared

Skinner has been excellent for every non ralph Krueger coach.

So changing from Sutter staff like Huska who implements the same system could be key to deciding if Huberdeaus in the same situation then?
I can agree with the premise a bad coach can screw up a year as Ducharme killed Caufields rookie year
