Why this makes sense to win the cup: Habs still have the same core: PK Markov Gally Chucky Pacmac Plecky and of course Pricy. But they added power houses in center which is their biggest lack. This team is very very young but yet the core has been playing together for a long time. Put Plecky in the 3rd trio center and you find yourself with a shut down 3 line to die for at home.____________Why trades make sense: Staal deal: This will only happen if Staal wants out or Car wants rebuild in either case it's a rebuild. I don't think that Car would go for this only prolly needs more from Canadiens and habs would also get something back in return, however these are the big pieces I believe habs would offer. Carolina gets 3 roster forwards and 1 defensmen that will all start in their lineup 100%. They also get a promising prospect. Smith-Pelly Eller are still young enough for a rebuild. Emelin is still 29 so he has another 4-5 years in NHL guaranteed. Parenteau is a tryout for the team and a salary dump for Habs. Now of course if Car wants to rebuild they wouldn't mind the dump. But no one should forget that Parenteau has had some success in the past so the change of scenery could be welcomed especially if you consider that both coaches he's had to live with since NYI really don't suit his style or character._____O'Reilly trade: They will lose him in free agency 100% so they might trade for him. Col will be looking to replace him as a center that can play wing and they get Desharnais signed for a few years at cheap price. Put Desharnais on wing with star players and I am convinced he can keep up on a top line. Prust adds the much needed character this team needs and in Gilbert they get a no-5-6 dmen. This will help their team next year because they don't lack talent without O'Reilly and they avoid losing him for free.__________Signing explanations: Galchenyuk: will not get more then Gally so put him at same salary._____Torrey Mitchell: Decent no4 center won't get more then 1M._____Beaulieu: Similar contract to all youngsters like him in the past just under 2M._____Visnovsky: Don't know his market value but you can replace him with anyone as a numbrt 6 just thought he could help the PP._____Marty St-Louis: Definitely a boost to the PP. Can still play. You have to think that if he comes it's with a pay cut and coming with his own will._____Steve Downie would replace Prust._____Scherback will start because I never heard a GM talk that much about a prospect in a post-mortem.
