Nuke is more important to this team with his size, versatility, and defensive ability.

The Next step
Colorado doesn't need to dump Johnson. His money goes into the Mackinnon contract in 2 years. Also, no way he would waive to go to Detroit.

Kadri
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>I assume you're trying to troll the Leafs fan base, but the thing is none of them we're saying Kadri wasn't good when he was moved. But management HAD to move him when they did. If he woulda got suspended again this playoffs after they hadn't moved him, it woulda been Dubas' job on the line. It was a high risk, high reward type of deal. It honestly wasn't as bad as most people thought. If Barrie woulda played under Keefe all season, we'd be saying a totally different story. & Barrie came at 50% salary last year. Add in a replacement centre on a affordable deal and it wasn't THAT bad. Did Colorado win it? Yeah sure. But both teams got what they needed and it was a hockey deal.</div></div>
I thought it was a really good trade for both teams at the time. I'm still surprised Barrie didn't work out. I'm just riding the high of this game and being a prick.

We already took on the theodore contract in 2006.

MTL FLA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JeffW</b></div><div>Why is there no room for kerfoot, but room for drouin? The only reason mtl fans are talking the drouin trade at all is because he use to pick up all mackinnons loose change in the Q.. landeskog is a much better left winger for MacKinnon, therefore I dont see a need to trade away kerfoot and a mid range first rounder for him</div></div>
What is it about the trade you don't like? Do you not like Drouin? Do you not like losing Kerfoot? or do you think it's an overpayment?
My thought process is:
Drouin > Kerfoot by quite a bit. He is a 23 year old 50 point scorer signed for the next 4 years at a good cap hit.
The 2nd line the way it is hasn't worked and an upgrade is needed. The lines don't really matter and you can change them up based on what happens in training camp. I put Landeskog on the 2nd line to balance the scoring and get a more experienced winger to help Jost get going. Jost and whoever they get with the Ottawa pick need some veteran help on their lines to help them figure things out. Having all the younger players on one line left them struggling and losing confidence.

Kerfoot is expendable. There's no room for him in the top 6 and he isn't really useful in the bottom 6. Drouin is also younger and has a higher upside.

I was thinking based on the rumors of them being willing to move #7 last year that they might be open to it but you're right. Even if the pick is lottery protected the rebuild is just beginning.

Not only are all the moves possible, but the contracts added aren't going to handcuff the team next season when Johnson, Barrie, and MacKinnon need new contracts.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bjornturok97</b></div><div><i>I know there's been a lot of talk of the oilers trading the 16 for Talbot, But I can't see them doing it, not unless there was another piece. I would do the 33rd and say a higher pick as well if that got the deal done.</i></div></div>
I agree with you about the value of Talbot. He looks promising but the Oilers have plenty to choose from which gives them more bargaining power. Corey Schneider got the 9th overall pick but he was much more established as an NHL goalie and had a higher potential being a 1st round pick and all. All that along with this being such a deep draft, 16th overall seems too steep for a goalie with only 50 something games who played in front of a really good defense. He looks like a solid goalie but it seems more likely that he'll get the Rangers 33 unless there is someone on the board that Edmonton really likes.

Not bad. The only thing I question is buying out Guenin. They can always send him down to San Antonio rather than having money count against the cap for 2 years.
