Matthews is the better player now, and quite frankly, you simply just don't trade an elite center for am elite winger. An elite center can make an average winger look like a top line player but an elite winger can't make an average center look like anything more than an average center. Case and point look at the Avs, when they acquired Lehkonen his career high in points was like 31 points but put him beside Landeskog and all of a sudden his career high hits 51. Now let's take a look at the other side, Pastrnak is an elite winger but he can't make Geekie or Coyle look like top line players. Centers are always going to have more value than wingers, teams build their rosters around centers not wingers

hey if you want matthew thats fine ill make that trade idk why youre trying to talk me out of it? i like matthew as much as any leaf fan would he was drafted by us and plays for us, yeah hes from arizona but hes ours right. however i think being able to let matthews go closer to home and getting the better player out of it in rantanen is worth it. liljegren for jones and a 3rd stings a bit but its still a good deal.
