If we're going to move Hayes with retention, we're best suited to aim for draft capital and keep shooting towards 26-27 like Armstrong has been stressing in terms of looking for a competitive window to open up. I wouldn't mind Kuzmenko on the Blues to be honest. I just wouldn't be willing to pay for his season last season.

His base value is the Blues don’t have a large incentive to trade him. They don’t have many NHL ready centers for this season or next.

I can see them entertaining trading him if the return is really good though and just running Thomas - Schenn - Sunny - Gaudette for the remainder of the season and trying something out again next season through free agency if the return is good enough either via draft capital or defensive prospects. Retention shouldn’t really matter too much if it accomplishes that.

I would say with no retention probably a second with 50% retention prob a late first (Seravalli said so as well).
