tbh Stephenson could be getting more money than that on the open market due to bidding war + the fact that he was instrumental in the Vegas cup run

Totally could see it, he's having a bit of a down year because of injuries which is why I think you could get him for lower. However 5-6 million is more likely.

Who should be? Outside of trades as I believe Pesce is going cost much more.

I think Stephenson will get more too. But if he did, I would think on paper this roster is a big upgrade next year to this year's. Stephenson can swap with Tavares based on need for 3c/2c needs. That could open up space and maximize both players at their stages.

Just can't see Stephenson at 4.5 mill.

All three were younger, signing those deals for teams that were desperate for a 2C.

While I do agree that Stephenson likely gets more than what I put, I am suggesting a lower AVA due to his lack of production this season and small injury.

Yep I agree to both of those. It is hard to think of someone else who is a UFA that would fit with the roster and cap

Even then the trade involving sub type players are rare. And majority never end up a win win for both sides. To trade a core four for a top 6 winger and top 4 Blueline is rare. Only recent example is Tkachuk and yes at the time was considered great for both teams. After Huberdeau was resigned though, who has had the last laugh

Yep, and the problem is what core four would you move? All four have full NMC and control is they want to stay or go lol.

I love Marner but I think he would bring back the highest value in a trade. However he is likely the biggest Toronto fan boy.

Even forgetting the nmc. Tavares is gone in a year unless he accepts a discount which he probably will and then his contract become very bearable again. Marner is an excellent passer and great at creating rushes. Nylander is the best all around skill guy we have. Great passer and scorer but not elite. Matthews is elite at scoring, his passing could be better. Trading any one of them takes a skill away and then we need to think about replacing.

Both Minten and Cowan need more time in the AHL.

Leafs almost ruined Al Iafrate in the 80s.

Threw him to the wolves as an 18 year old.

He ended up having a decent career.

IIRC he had a few good years in Washington.
