I think something that I’ve noticed is Pens fans just can’t seem to accept we are losing purely because of our offence. The only time they can seem to do something is when Sid is on the ice. After that nothing has been working really. Because when you looks at the GF and GA. Scoring goals is where we suck. But when it comes to GA is where the team is on point with Boston and Florida. Those kind of results come from good defence and obviously good goaltending. As much as I hate to say it, Smith hasn’t really been as good as we’d hoped. Geno is still a good player but actually declining this season. Rust is also still a good winger for both Sid and Geno. Rakell has been great since coming back from injury and still a great fit for the top 6. After that is where the scoring dips. Our third line lacks a lot of things which I will not go in to. Our 4th line problem is Big Jeff Carter(not all on him but we need more from the 4th line as well). We have the players to match the game and competition but only to mediocrity. Which mediocre results could get us in the playoffs this year but not a preferable spot to be in.
If we really want a spot to be in I think the team has to start taking notes. There’s still a chance to become a threat. But this game has evolved from 2016 when we were unstoppable. We gotta adjust to today’s game.
Also I’d just still fire Reirden. Our power play has just been too abysmal still. Costed way too many games. I just wished the refs would just put away the whistles on us lol.
