Aberg is a big question mark to me. what is his ceiling? he looks like a 23 y/o prospect with a short NHL stint, so he's not worth a top6 spot or a 1st round pick on the first sight. maybe NSH sees something in him, but he shouldn't be worth throwing away a 1st in a trade that was already favoring NSH.

Picks can change, its an estimate right now. just seeing if we can get some younger players. Rangers are good at developement, but lets keep the younger players and make them useful to US not another team like normally

Plus losing Miller(back to the last post) saves the Rangers from signing a contract that could hurt them in years to come... aka McDonagh

meaning Mcdonagh will need to be signed so we need the cap room

Miller, Hayes, Skjei and McD extensions should be feasible with ~12M. the only problem is the Staal buyout cost spike in two important years so trading him with a high pick instead of throwing away Miller seems a better option for me. especially since we don't know Abergs ceiling and Jarnkrok is probably a (good) career 3C with 30-35 points a year while Miller is a potential 50-55 point guy.

Are you a Nashville fan or a Rangers fan? Why would you get rid of Millsey for a couple of guys that had somewhat decent-ish playoffs?
Calle Jarnkrok Nashville Predators UFA 25 C 81 15 16 31 -1 15:43
Pontus Aberg Nashville Predators RFA 23 LW 15 1 1 2 -2 12:20
J.T. Miller New York Rangers RFA 24 C, RW 82 22 34 56 17 16:21
What benefit am I missing here? Future cap space? Nash has 1 year left and won't cost as much after that. Skjei, Hayes, and Vesey won't be commanding massive pay increases after this upcoming season. I don't see any benefit from this whatsoever.

I dont dislike Miller, but he is not a good center IMO.. keep him at wing at that is fine, McD is probably 6.5 or 7 Mill because his all around game(compared to Shatty) and Hayes will probaby be around 4 Mill and so would Miller, Skjei will be an interesting contract, Not sure how much that will be, could see long term for 3-4 Million, That would be 17.5 million using the lower estimates on McD and Skjei.. Miller gone makes that 13.5M which would be reasonable, plus we have Gropp, Boo, and some other prospects that will be ready soon.. Boo and Gropp could potentially play now

12M is the differential to now.
McD+3
Miller +2
Skjei +5 (longterm)
Hayes +2
is the worst case calculation.
I don't think we will ever see Nieves and Gropp in the NHL.
And you still don't give up a 50 point winger for a 3rd line center.

I like Jarnkrok a lot, and I am a Rangers Fan.. forget about the picks, i like Aberg and think he has potential to be a very solid player, Jarnkrok is the person i want most out of this trade... Aberg was just a though

I get your point, and we dont know how he will play on the rangers either... Gropp i think will be in the NHL.. have been following him for some time now and think he will be a big help eventually. Nieves is hit or miss but shows he could be called up if need(injury wise)

Biggest problem with getting a guy like Jarnkrok is, yes his contract is really great, but in a couple years when Andersson or Chytil are ready there is nowhere to put them... Dont waste good talent on the 4th line IMO
