    Gotta say I don't hate the idea of going after Matt Roy in UFA.

    Slight un-realism - I doubt that anyone will trade for Forsberg at his salary with the injuries, which probably means you can't sign Noesen & Silverberg.

    Then you have to hope to get some good minutes out of a few of MacEwen, Kastelic, Crookshank, Jarventie, Boucher, Ostapchuk, Kelly & Chartier (I think Chartier and Kelly are candidates to re-sign)

    Buyout Petry.

    Walman makes a whopping 3.4 mil. 🤭

    They're stuck with Holl. 😬

    Plus Kane, Perron, Ghost, Sprong, Fischer, Reimer are off the books.

    Most of the Red Wings money will be allocated for Seider and Raymond's raises.

    They need to re-sign Rasmussen, Veleno and Berggren but that's chicken feed.

    Cap goes up by 4.2 mil.

    They'll get Vrana's retain money back.

    Cheap ELCs Edvinsson and Mazur will be added.

    Detroit can definitely sign Roy.

    It's certainly not impossible. 🤭

    Besides Ottawa is spending more money on D here than Detroit is! 🤭

    It's not impossible - but that's a lot of moving parts. Priority for Wings is definitely Seider extension. Trading a player away and buying out another one - then they'll have to sign Roy AND get another NHL D. It's definitely possible, but there's no reason anyone should be looking at the Wings as big UFA players for a D.

    Honestly home town / home state has not shown to be a major concern for most players, especially for their first UFA contract. Guys in their mid-30's? Sure.
