Jfresh posted on twitter he could see the Leafs getting Laughton with Risto and it being a very "Leafy" trade and I unfortunately agree.

The Flyers aren't getting anyone to take Ristolainen without retention and without also sending other pieces back. And the Leafs 100% cannot afford to trade FOR Ristolainen. He's 29, he has 3 MORE years at 5.1, and his improved numbers are likely due to the fact that he's only playing 16 minutes a night this year. He's a waiver guy if he's on a reasonable number. This wouldn't be a good trade for the Leafs.

Why though? Like you could bicker about the values here. But it doesn't even really matter in this case. ( i wouldn't give up a single thing for Risto personally) Why would anyone want that horrible contract? Risto adds nothing to a team. He doesnt play big. He is a mediocre defender. No way Philly is going to retain all that salary. I just dont understand why anyone, let alone the Leafs, would do this. Outside of taking him from Philly for free essentially. Like Risto for a 4th round pick straight up with no retention. And even then, you are taking a huge risk that you can find some kind of value in him. This is one of those ego moves, where the GM or coach thinks they can get something out of him that nobody else has been able to so far.
