I'm sure CGY wants to give up their starting goalie for a cap dump and a meh prospect as long as you slap some firsts on there like a trade bandaid. Not to mention what Tanev would command with 50% retention alone

With the Nylander & Matthews extensions kicking in next year, U guys won’t even be able to fill your lineup

You seem to be forgetting that the Salary Cap is increasing & that guys like Burtuzzi & Domi are coming off the books

The teams cap certainly isn't ideal atm & it'll be a BIG relief when the Tavares contract gets off the books, but they could certainly still ice a full roster of guys. They would be relying on guys like Knies & Robertson to progress to the point where they can fully take those Top 6 responsibilities though

Although the big thing is the Leafs aren't even Cup Contenders atm & they NEED both a Top Goalie & to add a Top 4 defender like Tanev in order to be a Cup Contender

Markstrom to the leafs is just a waste of cap with Woll and Hildeby. Woll before his injury had better numbers than Markstrom and Tanev isn't going to put the leafs over the hump. Total waste of assets on a team not getting by the first round.
