Why would Philly willingly take on that much cap without major assets coming with?

Cost PHI 4.75mil more for the next 3 yrs just Risto vs Seguin, (just 3mil more with Deslauriers added) but they really need a 2C. And Seguin is young enough and playing well, to fill the role and a good playmaker for the young wingers.

PHI has the cap space and could have a Coots, Seguin, Frost, Poehling down the middle with Cates moving to 3LW, a very solid forward lineup.

By that logic why wouldn’t they just trade Risto for assets and not spend it on an overpaid player? Seems like shipping out one problem for another especially when they have their own players that are due raises in the next few years.
