First of all, your trades:

BIG yes if we trade Buch
No
Heeell no
Heeeeeeyll naw

But much, much more importantly, is your user name a portmanteau base on the Dutch word for sandwich? Please tell me it is, pretty please.

I do the Vegas trade. That first round pick could be pretty high (like 20) and I think Edstrom is a very high-probability middle-6 C who has built in chemistry with Stenberg.

I think Karki is their best D prospect and the most suited tobiur needs, too. And Korcsz is nothing to sneeze at.

That’s a nice return for sure. Edstrom I think could be a sneaky really good player.

To start with the most important question... you're correct on the sandwich part. wink

About the trades:

The Buchtrade:
Army apparantly wants '2 first round picks or assets of equal value'. With the 24 first and Edstrom we get those. However, we probably need to 'help' Vegas with their cap, hence retaining on Buch. For retaining 50% and adding a 3rd we get Korczak and Karkki. The first is a big right handed defender who has a 3rd pairing floor but can potentially move up to the 2nd pairing as a potential Faulk replacement (if we're able to move him). Karkki is another lotery ticket for a potential top 4 LHD.

The Hayes trade:
Emily Kaplan mentioned the Rangers had interest in Hayes, but the Blues probably needed to retain. I'd rather not retain on contracts with term (with the exception of Buch), hence taking on a bad contract in Goodrow. Hayes probably has 3rd round pick value, adding Goodrow upgrades that pick to a 2nd and adds 2 prospects. Ryder Korczak can potentially be a bottom 6 center and Chmelar is a big 6'5" winger who could some day be a good bottom 6 winger. The Goodrow contract however is bad, so why add him? Keep in mind the Blues are retooling. I'm convinced they will still be doing this at least the next two years and Goodrow could help with a potential tank. The final year of his contract is interesting though, as his caphit is 3.6 million, but (after paying his signing bonus) the actual money that has to be payed is only 1.25 million. This makes his contract very interesting for a specific niche (and potentially even decently valuable): teams who's owners who want to pay the least possible but still get to the cap. For reference: see the Arizona/Ottawa Derek Stepan trade.

The Scandella trade:
Scandella's contract @100% isn't worth anything as most contenders don't have the capspace to add him. It also doesn't help that he averages 9/10 minutes a game and has been a healthy scrath a couple of matches. However, if we retain 50% he could have 'some' value, maybe a 4th round pick? Boston could be an option as Scandella is a clear upgrade over Wotherspoon. To help gain Boston some capspace for potential other deadline trades we take Forbort (who is a UFA at the end of the season) on as a capdump. For doing so we get a 3rd and a 6th.

The Perunovich trade:
Yeah... I don't see us being able to move Krug and it doesn't make sense to keep both. As there is a real possibility Perunovich could become UFA after this season due to not having played enough games, it might be a good move to trade him. Bill Armstrong, who drafted him at St.Louis, could be interested?

First of all... lekker.

Vegas trade: you don't need to sell me on the package. It's incredibly tempting.

NYR trade: Let's get one thing perfectly straight. There is no tank coming. Perish that thought. As for the trade, I agree Goodrow can be useful for a few years, but the reality is it would cost the rest of that package just to drop him on us. Perhaps even a better prospect than those two. And Hayes can grab a little goodie himself, especially if retained. Long story short, we can do better than that. It's a little too generous. But I'm not against the larger concept.

BOS trade: Again, not opposed to the essence of the Scandella idea, but he's VERY much needed right now. And lemme tell ya, any time he only plays 9 minutes, it's because our coaching staff is consistently poor with roster management/line/pairing/matchup decisions. So, he's both wasted and needed right at the moment.

ARIZ trade: I'm opposed to simply tossing Scotty away like this, but I can tell you it ain't gonna be a rival grabbing him for peanuts. He needs to be re-signed and "not able to move Krug" needs to leave our vocabularies. Get 'er done. It's not impossible. Somebody tried to take him full cap last summer.
