I think the Penguins would actually consider that offer even from an indivision rival. The 2026 draft is shaping up to be strong and who knows what happens with New York by then.

That's self evidently untrue. Name a major deal long time Metro rivals have pulled off recently (PIT/PHI/WSH/NYR). PIT hasn't traded with anyone in years. Last deal was with PHI and TBL played 3rd party to broker it.

Sure, if it is clearly the best offer then I do think they would take it. If it is questionable, then no, I expect by default they will take a non-division rival. Even CAR is a much preferred partner compared to NYR.
