COL just can’t have another multi million contract in the bottom 6 and that 3rd pairing might be good down the line they are both small and would get worked.

I think the drouin deal is the problematic one. Trenin can play everywhere and in alot of situations.

Find next years drouin and move one of your 2nd pair guys and spread that money out over the bottom 4 of your defense

I do wonder if loading up on wingers now is in part to get a look at a few guys they might like for next year. If Landeskog can’t come back, I could see them spreading part of his $7M between a couple guys like Drouin & Trenin for example. But to @Xqb15a ‘s point, they don’t want to tie up too much money in bottom six guys with other extensions coming up.

That bottom pairing is not gonna work. You should put Malinski with Girard or Manson. Honestly something tells me Behrens gets traded today.

I would love a Drouin extension, but I think that (and the Trenin extension too) are dependent on what happens with Landy. If he comes back, at least one if not both are gone.

Yeah you can usually find a guy that can out produce or willing to take a very team friendly deal to chase a cup. COL also doesn’t usually pay a premium for guys at the deadline without trying to bring them back, I would much rather have that money go to Walker and have him come back but that will be tough.

I heard Behrens has good physicality & am not worried about starting him & Malinski. I think Walker prices out of COL.

I would be seriously concerned about putting a rookie with a first year guy and Behrens is 5’10 176, and Malinski is listed at 5’10” (no way) 190 (no way) and they would get decimated by teams like VGK, WPG and DAL. I tend to agree Walker is priced out but winning and good not great money might convince him to take a discount.
