They do if the performance bonus causes the teams cap hit to exceed the salary cap ceiling, which it will since Norris is on LTIR.

I also had text for people to read and I guess it didn't post. But anyways, he will easily reach $1M performance bonus and will not achieve the additional 850K.

Straight from this very website:

"Performance bonuses count against the salary cap; however, a team can exceed the salary cap due to performance bonuses by the maximum performance bonus cushion amount of 7.5 percent of the upper limit."

I'm not sure how Norris' LTIR factors in but I don't think Sanderson's performance bonuses factor in at all, and if they do Staios would be wise to just play the last 19 games with a trimmed roster as opposed to carrying over that $1M hit to next year.

Thank you, I did not know about the 7.5% upper limit. But I believe how it works from what I read is since Norris is on LTIR, his cap hit will be used as part of that calculation. I am not sure if the team is allowed to say something like, if we had Norris on the roster they could trim the roster down to be well below the cap ceiling. I am just assuming the worst to not be caught off guard. I would be very happy if the Sens didn't have this carry over, because that would essentially allow them to burry Hamonic as a scratch all year unless they can trade him (99% doubt).
