Song wasn't a joke, he was a marketing strategy. Charles Wang was trying to generate interest in hockey in general, and the Islanders in particular, in China; spending a late round pick on a kid from China was an attempt to do so.

This is true, but my point still stands. Imagine being an athlete who wakes up at 5 am everyday, goes on a strict diet and puts all his time into perfecting his game, yet still go undrafted.
