He's going into his age 33 season and missed 30 games with injury last year, and even if he was fully healthy still wouldn't be worth a 1st.

Isles Realistic 23-24
This is super realistic, except for Homstrom as LW1, paying a 2nd to dump a contract that is almost fully buryable, and the fact that you have no cap space for 13/14F & 7D.

At no point were any of Cizikas/Martin/Clutterbuck healthy scratched last year. However, by the fancy stats, the fourth line was more effective with Fasching when Clutterbuck was injured (albeit with fewer defensive zone starts), so it would not be the worst thing in the world for Clutterbuck to sit. Again though, the "best fourth line in hockey" nonsense still seems to carry a lot of weight in the Isles org.

Yeah, there's a non-zero chance that Clutterbuck winds up needing another surgery or something and isn't ready to start the season. But if healthy there's no doubt in my mind that he's in the lineup at RW4 over Fasching on opening night.

3 way Panarin stays in NY
The Islanders and Rangers have made three trades with each other since the Isles joined the league (and only one since 1972).
1972 - 7th & 8th round picks to the Isles for expansion draft considerations
1972 - 40-year-old Ron Stewart to the Isles for cash
2010 - 6th round pick to the Isles for Jyri Niemi who wound up never playing in the NHL
The chances of a trade like you've proposed between these two teams happening is less than zero.

If healthy, there's no way they break up the Cizikas-Martin-Clutterbuck line to start the season. Fasching will likely play quite a bit due to the inevitable injuries, but unless something goes terribly wrong this offseason and he's the top option at RW3, I'd be shocked if he's in the opening night lineup.

Mayfield will probably get more money than that (hopefully not from the Isles though).
It's wishful thinking to believe that Fasching would not be a scratch if Martin and Clutterbuck are healthy (which, at least in CC's place, is a big if).

In a vacuum, I wouldn't hate the Isles picking up Martinez for one year, but his cap hit would prevent them from making improvements elsewhere.
Also, zero chance he brings back a 2nd. Maybe a 5th, at most.

You think a 5'11" defenseman that's never scored more than 23 points in a season is going to get an AAV of $5MM+?!? That would be insane. I think $2.75MM might be on the high side for him.

Next year with Kane and Bert
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Not_Isles5513</b></div><div>Too long and too much money for Kane and Bertuzzi. Overpay to dump Bailey. Martin and Clutterbuck probably have value on the trade market to teams that lack grit and leadership. Lots of teams got bounced in round one or two cause of how soft they were.</div></div>
The Kane contract is less than what Giroux got from Ottawa last year, so there's actually an argument that what's proposed here is too low.
Bert is making $4.75MM now, and will likely get a raise, so again, there's actually an argument that what's proposed here is too low.

It does if it drops the cost to dump him from a 2nd to a 4th or 5th, and saves them cap space over a buyout both this year and next.

LOL, that trade is almost as much as Quebec got for Lindros.
Seriously though, when was the last time any team gave up more than four assets for a single player? The closest I can find somewhat recently is Karlsson to SJ where Ottawa got three high picks, a good prospect, and a couple of roster filler players—every other trade with more than four assets included at least one cap dump to offset salaries.

He's certainly not worth the upgrade from Barzal to Marner at RW1, especially when you consider there's no way Marner continues to put up 90+ point seasons in the Isles' defense-first system.
